In Mercury's sky, the Sun sometimes performs a backward loop. If this happens at sunrise, as seen here, you have the curious spectacle of a double dawn. This strange phenomenon is a result of Mercury's slow rotation period and its motion around the Sun along a stretched out elliptical path.
